Instagram Guide

Instagram accounts are the Swiss-army knife of the account market: people buy them to skip the grind of growing from zero, to get a username that's been taken since 2013, to run theme pages, or to have clean, aged profiles for outreach and ads. The listing variety reflects that — from $1 fresh profiles to five-figure OG-username accounts. This guide is about not paying premium money for a worthless profile.

Start from your use case

  • Growing a page. You want aged, email-changeable, no violations, and ideally some real posting history. Follower count matters less than cleanliness.
  • Username (OG) hunting. You're buying the handle, not the account. Short, dictionary-word, or first-name handles command the price. Verify the exact spelling — one letter off a famous handle is worth a tenth.
  • Outreach / DMs. Aged accounts with profile photos and posting history get far fewer action blocks than fresh ones.
  • Ads. Old, trusted accounts connected to a clean Facebook profile survive ad review far better than week-old ones.

What to check before you buy

  • Email change works. Non-negotiable. Log in, go to Settings → Accounts Center → Personal details, and change the contact email to yours during the warranty window. If it fails, the seller doesn't have full control.
  • Recovery email removed. Same screen — make sure no old recovery email remains that the seller could use to pull the account back.
  • Linked Facebook. Many accounts are linked to a Facebook profile. Decide whether the listing includes it; a linked profile you don't control is a backdoor.
  • Violation and block status. Check Account Status (Settings → Account → Account status). Prior violations cap your reach permanently in some cases.
  • 2FA. Turn it on the moment you take over. If the seller delivers with 2FA on, make sure you get the backup codes or the authenticator can be re-registered by you.

Spotting fake followers

Scroll the follower list and the likes on the last posts. Bot followers have no profile photo, zero posts, and gibberish names; a real audience leaves real comments. As a rough rule, an account with 50k followers should be pulling at least a few thousand likes per post in its niche — if it gets 87 likes, the followers are dead weight and you should price it as a fresh account with a nice handle, nothing more.

Delivery formats

Standard is username:password plus the bound email (or the ability to change it). Better sellers include session cookies, which let you log in without triggering Instagram's "suspicious login" email. Either way, change the email and password from a stable IP — logging in from a different continent than the account's history and immediately changing everything is the classic recipe for a checkpoint lock.

Warranty expectations

The market standard covers login failures and banned-on-arrival accounts for 24–72 hours. It does not cover action blocks you cause by mass-following 500 people an hour on day one. Warm the account: a few days of normal scrolling and liking before any automation or aggressive growth.

Common scams

  • The reclaim. Seller keeps the original email and recovers the account later. Always complete the email change; screenshot the Accounts Center page showing your email.
  • Rented followers. Some sellers pump bot followers right before sale. Check engagement history over weeks, not the current count.
  • OG handle bait. A "rare" handle at a suspiciously low price is usually either misspelled or the account has a hidden violation history. Check Account Status before paying.

As for pricing: ordinary aged accounts trade for a few dollars, clean accounts with real posting history for more, and true OG handles anywhere from tens to thousands of dollars depending on the name. If a handle looks underpriced, assume there's a reason — usually violations or an owner who can reclaim it — until proven otherwise.
