Proxy Services Guide

Proxies are infrastructure, not accounts — but they're sold on the same shelves because almost every serious account buyer needs them. The wrong proxy gets your fresh accounts flagged; the right one is invisible. This guide is for buyers who've been burned by "private proxies" that turned out to be neither private nor proxies worth the name.

The types, in plain language

  • Datacenter. Cheap, fast, and obviously a datacenter IP. Fine for scraping and general browsing; terrible for logging into aged social accounts, because platforms distrust them on sight.
  • Residential. IPs from real ISPs (a home connection somewhere). Much harder for platforms to flag. The workhorse for account work — and priced like it.
  • Mobile (4G/5G). IPs from carrier networks. The highest trust level, because hundreds of real users share each IP — platforms can't ban them aggressively without banning real customers. Most expensive per GB.
  • ISP / static residential. Residential IPs that don't rotate — a middle ground: datacenter speed with residential trust.

Rotating vs. sticky

Rotating proxies change IP every request or every few minutes — good for scraping. Sticky sessions hold one IP for 10–30+ minutes — what you want when logging into accounts, because an IP that changes mid-session is a classic fraud signal. Match the mode to the job; sellers usually offer both.

What to check before you buy

  • IP quality score. Run the IPs through a reputation checker (there are free ones in our Tools section). Look for fraud scores and whether the IP appears on blacklists. A "residential" IP with a fraud score of 95 is a burned IP with a nice label.
  • ASN type. The autonomous system number reveals whether the IP is really residential, mobile, or datacenter. Verify, don't trust the label.
  • Geolocation accuracy. Check what location databases report for the IP. If you bought "Germany" and three geo databases say "Netherlands," your accounts will notice before you do.
  • Speed and uptime. Run a speed test through the proxy. For account work, stability beats raw speed — a proxy that drops every ten minutes will cost you more in flagged accounts than it saves.
  • Auth method. Username/password auth works everywhere; IP-whitelist (auth by your server's IP) is more convenient but ties the proxy to one machine. Know which you're getting.
  • The pricing model. Per-GB (pay for traffic) vs. per-port or per-proxy (pay for access). Heavy scrapers usually win on per-port; light account managers win on per-GB. Do the math for your volume.

Warranty expectations

Proxy warranties are about uptime and replacement of dead IPs, not about your accounts surviving — no proxy seller can guarantee a platform won't flag you. Reputable sellers replace non-working IPs within 24 hours and publish real uptime numbers. "Lifetime" proxy offers deserve skepticism: IPs get burned, subnets get blacklisted, and someone has to pay for fresh ones.

Common scams

  • Free proxy lists, repackaged. Scraped public proxies sold as "private." Test: if the same IP responds to you and to a stranger, it's not private.
  • Datacenter sold as residential. The most common lie in the category. Check the ASN — it takes ten seconds.
  • "Unlimited" bandwidth. There is no unlimited. There's "unlimited until you actually use a lot, then throttled or banned." Ask for the fair-use number.

Buy from sellers who state the proxy type, ASN range, rotation options, and replacement policy up front. Test every IP you receive before routing real accounts through it — ten minutes of checking saves weeks of unflagging. And one habit separates the buyers who thrive from the ones who file tickets: one proxy, one identity. Running five accounts through one IP and then blaming the proxy when all five get linked is the oldest story in this category.
